Recommended equipment
TrackDME needs a unique, readable code for each serialized unit. You can use an existing label, print your own, or type the code when scanning is unavailable. A handheld reader is optional. No specific reader model has been validated with TrackDME, so test compatibility with your device and labels before relying on it.
Metalized polyester asset labels
Metalized silver polyester asset labels (McAuley Labels). These are polyester labels with a metallic finish, not metal tags. The vendor describes them as water- and chemical-resistant for medium-duty use. We have not verified how they hold up to a DME cleaning or disinfection protocol. Test a sample with your equipment surface, cleaning products, and barcode format before ordering in quantity.
Why label durability matters. A code must remain readable after normal handling and cleaning. Put a human-readable asset code alongside the barcode so staff can type it if scanning fails. Do not cover manufacturer serial numbers or safety labels. Request your asset numbers as the printed barcode values so each label matches the Barcode recorded for the unit.

Wireless barcode scanner
Wireless barcode scanner (Tera). This linked model is an example of a Bluetooth keyboard-style reader to evaluate, not a TrackDME-tested accessory. Before buying, confirm that it pairs with your device, reads your label format, and enters the code into a text field. Check current pricing and the return policy.
Using a keyboard-style reader. On iPhone, open Scan, focus Enter barcode, and scan the label. If the reader sends Return, the app looks up the unit; otherwise tap Find equipment. On the website, focus Unit barcode, scan, then press Return or select Look up. Confirm that the correct unit appears before opening its rental and recording Receive return or Check out.
A reader only enters an identifier. It does not change equipment status by itself. If pairing or input is unreliable, use the phone camera or type the code. See The scan loop.
Putting it together
Readable labels and a compatible reader may reduce repeated typing, but neither is required to use TrackDME. Keep manual entry available for damaged labels or devices without a reader.
