The rental lifecycle is the end-to-end journey every reusable DME unit travels: order intake → unit selection → delivery → active rental → return pickup → incoming inspection → reprocessing (cleaning, repair, functional check) → patient-ready staging → re-rental. This loop repeats for the life of the asset.
The efficiency of the rental lifecycle directly determines profitability. A unit sitting idle in 'returned but not yet cleaned' limbo is not generating revenue. A unit that skips reprocessing is a liability. A unit whose return is not tracked at all is capital that quietly disappears from the balance sheet.
For many DME providers, the lifecycle breaks down at handoffs: delivery techs don't scan items out in the field, warehouse staff don't scan items in on return, and the cleaning step has no digital record. The result is a spreadsheet (or nothing) that drifts further from reality every day.
