Chain of custody is a documented account of who possessed a specific item over time. For a serialized DME unit, a complete account may draw on checkout and return records, delivery confirmation, cleaning and repair records, and physical inventory checks.
TrackDME records confirmed rental handoffs, swaps, and readiness changes against a unit. Scanning helps identify the right unit before an action. It does not automatically record every physical handoff or prove that cleaning and inspection occurred.
Keep the supporting delivery, cleaning, maintenance, and other records your organization needs in its existing processes. Reconcile gaps rather than assuming a unit's software status proves its physical location or condition.
