ACHC (Accreditation Commission for Health Care)

The Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) is a nonprofit accrediting body headquartered in Cary, North Carolina. It is a CMS-approved accrediting organization for DMEPOS suppliers.

ACHC accreditation includes an initial survey and ongoing review against standards that cover areas such as business operations, quality management, equipment management, infection control, and patient rights. Under the CMS rule effective in 2026, initial accreditations and renewed accreditation cycles move to resurvey and reaccreditation at least once every 12 months.

ACHC's infection control and equipment management standards specifically require that suppliers maintain written procedures for cleaning, disinfection, and inspection of rental equipment, and that records documenting compliance with those procedures be retained and available for review during surveys.

Suppliers whose current three-year accreditation cycle was issued before January 1, 2026 begin the annual cycle when that existing accreditation expires. Reliable, easily retrievable equipment records become more important as surveys occur more frequently.
